Privacy Policy

Effective September 15, 2026

This policy explains what Salt Lake Mobile Knife Sharpening collects when you book a sharpening appointment or send an event inquiry, and how that information is used. We keep it short and we don't sell your data.

What we collect

When you book, we collect the details you enter: your name, phone number, email address, the service address where you'd like us to come, the items you want sharpened, and any notes you add.

If you send an event inquiry instead of booking, we collect your name, phone, email, organization or event name, approximate number of guests, preferred date, city, and any message — and email it to us so we can reply.

If you choose to keep a card on file for an unattended visit, your card is handled and stored by our payment processor (Square). Card numbers never touch our servers.

We also automatically receive your device's IP address when you use the site. We use it to prevent abuse of our booking and lookup forms, and our analytics provider uses it to estimate approximate location (city-level) and guard against fraud. We don't use it to identify you personally.

How we use it

We use your details to schedule the visit, drive to you, sharpen your items, send confirmations, and follow up about your appointment. That's it — no marketing lists, no newsletters.

To confirm you're within our service area, the address you enter is sent to Google's mapping service to estimate drive time. We store a rounded, approximate location for a short time so we don't have to re-check the same spot repeatedly.

Who we share it with

Upstash stores the appointment ledger, including the booking details needed to schedule and complete your visit. Square handles customer and payment records, including an optional card on file, but is not our appointment calendar. Google Maps Platform estimates drive time and helps you enter your address. Resend delivers appointment and event-inquiry emails. PostHog measures how the site is used so we can improve it. Vercel hosts the site. Each provider receives only what it needs to do that job.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Cookies and local storage

Our analytics provider (PostHog) stores a small random identifier in your browser (via cookies and local storage) so it can recognize a single visit across page loads. This identifier isn't your name or contact info. You can clear it any time through your browser, and blocking cookies or analytics won't stop you from booking.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how visitors move through the booking flow. Text and element attributes are masked, and session recording is disabled, so the specific details you enter — name, address, phone, email, and notes — are not recorded by our analytics.

If you block analytics with a browser extension or privacy setting, the site still works and you can still book normally.

How long we keep it

Appointment records are retained in our Upstash appointment ledger, and customer and payment records are retained in Square, for as long as needed to run the business and meet legal and tax obligations. Approximate travel-time lookups expire automatically after about a month.

Your choices

You can ask us to update or delete your information at any time — text or call 734-800-9772 and we'll take care of it.

Children

This site is meant for adults booking a service and isn't directed to children. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we'll update this page and revise the effective date above.
